The average American household spends over $2,200 per year on utility bills. Most have no idea if that's fair. Utility pricing is opaque by design — buried rate schedules, delivery charges layered on top of supply charges, regulatory fees that vary by zip code. Switching providers or negotiating a lower rate is possible in many markets, but you'd have to know you're overpaying first.
That's the problem LeanBills solves. You upload a photo or PDF of your bill — any electric, gas, or internet bill — and our AI reads every line: the rate per kWh, the delivery markup, the mystery regulatory fees. It benchmarks your rates against current market averages for your region and tells you exactly what you could save, and what action to take.
No bank linking. No financial account access. No subscription selling. Just an honest analysis of what you're paying versus what you should be paying.
Most financial analysis tools ask you to link your bank account. We deliberately don't. Your utility bill contains everything needed to analyze your rates. Requiring bank access creates unnecessary privacy risk and is a barrier that stops many people from getting started. A photo of your bill is enough — and it's all we'll ever ask for.
LeanBills runs on Polsia's infrastructure — a platform for AI-powered web apps. The AI analysis uses OpenAI's GPT-4o Vision model. Bill files are stored temporarily in Cloudflare R2 and auto-deleted after 30 days. The database runs on Neon PostgreSQL. Email is handled by Postmark.
